Abstract

Education is vital for any society to run democratically and strengthen the nation's foundation. Education helps improve people's lives by enabling them to understand their rights and participate in the political system. Education plays a key role in the all-round development of people and makes society a better place by fostering critical thinking, promoting social cohesion, and empowering individuals to contribute positively to their communities, which in turn supports the democratic values that leaders like Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel championed during the unification of India. Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was one of the architects of modern India and played a central role in the unification of the states within India's boundaries. Patel believed in an education system that instills patriotic values in children. Patel believed in an education system that would instill a sense of national unity among the young generation and promote the nation's integration. Patel wanted an education system accessible to all, regardless of gender. This paper explores Patel’s views on education in post-colonial India’s nation-building and national unity. This paper also scrutinises Patel's critical and under-examined views on the type of education system India should adopt. Still, this paper will explore his views on the role of education in developing a new independent India. This paper will examine his ideas regarding the role of education in promoting India's unity, social justice, and development.
