Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, a renowned social reformer and the primary designer of the Indian Constitution, envisioned a society based on the ideals of equality, justice, and brotherhood. His concept for social justice primarily centered on eliminating the entrenched caste-based prejudice and empowering the downtrodden Dalit population. This abstract explores the enormous impact of Ambedkar’s views on the Dalit movement. Ambedkar’s intellectual and political endeavours were focused on destroying the hierarchical caste system, which he recognized as the fundamental source of social injustice in India. He championed the cause of educating and economically empowering Dalits, recognizing these as crucial factors for their liberation. Ambedkar emphasized the significance of constitutional safeguards and affirmative action programs in safeguarding the rights of Dalits and ensuring their representation in different aspects of life through his influential publications and speeches. Ambedkar’s vision has had a complex and diverse impact on the Dalit movement. His ideals served as a robust basis for Dalit agitation, motivating successive cohorts of leaders and activists to persist in their pursuit of equality. The Dalit movement, under the influence of Ambedkar’s teachings, has achieved notable milestones, such as the formation of dedicated groups advocating for Dalit rights, heightened political engagement, and the development of a Dalit intellectual heritage that questions the existing social hierarchy. In addition, Ambedkar’s focus on the significance of political power for effecting social transformation resulted in the establishment of political parties and groups that advocate for Dalit issues. Additionally, his visionary leadership has cultivated a strong sense of identification and unity among Dalits, enabling them to confidently express their rights and confront instances of prejudice. Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s vision for social justice has significantly influenced the Dalit movement, molding its ideas and techniques in a permanent manner. His unwavering commitment to achieving equity and justice has had a lasting impact on Indian society, making a vital contribution to the ongoing fight for Dalit empowerment and the creation of a fairer and more balanced society.
