Abstract

Cemeteries are distinctive locations where researchers can participate in diverse inquiry-based activities. A multitude of established cemeteries exists, suitable for studies at local, national, and worldwide levels. A cemetery documents local, national, and even international history through its tombstones. These tombstones, which have varied in size and style over time, document names, dates of birth and death, symbols, etc. Cemetery studies can encompass multiple disciplines, including history, geography, sociology, medical science, as well as gender and ethnic studies. A researcher will have numerous options for transdisciplinary study within a cemetery. North East India have many important British period cemeteries mainly related to the 2nd World war. Research on cemeteries in North East India will provide opportunities for researchers, given the presence of several notable cemeteries from the British era around the region. This paper will examine the potential of cemetery studies with focus on British cemeteries of North East India.
