Scientific awareness among upper primary school students is crucial for developing a strong foundation in science education. However, limited exposure to laboratory equipment and inadequate practical training often hinder conceptual understanding. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of a structured training programme on enhancing scientific awareness of laboratory equipment among upper primary school students. A quasi-experimental pre-test–post-test design was adopted. The sample consisted of 60 students from Class VII and VIII, selected through purposive sampling from two government schools in Gujarat. A Scientific Awareness Test (SAT) consisting of 30 multiple-choice and practical-identification items was developed and validated by experts (CVI = 0.94). The training programme, conducted over four weeks, involved demonstrations, hands-on activities, safety practices, and interactive discussions about 15 common laboratory instruments. Pre-test and post-test scores were analyzed using paired-sample t-test. Results indicated a significant improvement in mean scores from 14.25 (SD = 3.82) in the pre-test to 23.87 (SD = 2.94) in the post-test (t = 15.72, p < 0.01), suggesting a substantial positive effect of the intervention. The findings highlight the importance of experiential learning in science education. The study recommends integrating such training modules into the regular curriculum to improve practical skills and foster scientific curiosity among school students.
